You might already know this, I did Instagram it after all. But on July 28th, the BF whisked me away for a “mystery weekend” to Midway, a smallish is town behind Park City. It was a weekend FULL of surprises, but of course, the best surprise was the last morning when he proposed. Now, the big question I’ve gotten from people, after if we’ve set a date, is … was I surprised?
I mean, the dude took me to brunch, hiking in Sundance, swimming in a hot pot that’s hidden in a crater that is SO DEEP you can get certified to scuba dive there (the pic above is of us standing at the top of it), to an amazing Mexican dinner, we stayed in the honeymoon suite, and THEN he attempted to take me on a hot air balloon ride in the morning. The ride was cancelled due to wind. But after all that, did I REALLY not see it coming.
I will tell you, I certainly did not.
Reason #1 BF is tricky. I thought if there was a proposal coming it would be later on and he was making a big deal of the weekend for me to gag on a ring while slurping up my Tuesday night pho the next week.
Reason #2 We’ve been together for 3 and a half years. I thought we were the new Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.
And now Reason #3 The biggie. Why I DID NOT expect it at all:
Do you see that stubble? I am always begging for a clean shave. I completely expected him to shave his face for the proposal (ya know, if it was ever going to happen).
We’ve since discussed it and he had actually planned to shave it that morning but you have to get up REALLY early for a hot air balloon ride and he just didn’t have time. Plus, he had hinted to me that we were going zip-lining and how do you really explain your first clean shave in 2 years for that?
Anyways, like I said the hot air balloon ride was cancelled so he took me up Deer Valley for a hike. “Let’s hike to the top of that boulder”, he said.
“No, I don’t want to go that far,” I grumbled. But he got his way and we hiked to the top where we saw this awesome view.
Then, he said the nicest things anyone has ever said to me, much nicer than I deserve, and he got down on one knee. It was awesome.
AND that, my friends, is my happy story.
P.S. We did go on the hot air balloon ride a week later and it was amazing. If you ever get a chance, DO IT.
