{DIY} Spike Necklace

DIY Spike Necklace

Confession time. I’ve had three strands of these beads in my stash for months. Honestly, I’ve been meaning to do a DIY with them forever but every time I tried, using the full strand was just, too much. This version, with sections of the spikes, is much more wearable and layer-able (not actually a word by important for jewelry lovers!) than a full strand of the spiked beads.

DIY Spike Necklace Supplies

To make it you will need:

  • Spike beads
  • Some kind of spacer bead
  • Fishing line
  • Crimp beads (6)
  • Jump rings (6)
  • A matching clasp
  • Some chain
  • Bead crimper or needle-nose pliers

DIY Spike Necklace Bead Layout

Figure out the layout of the necklace. I spaced my beads out smallest to largest and then back again.

Then string the first section onto your fishing line including your crimp bead and jump ring. The jump ring should be last. Then, loop the end of the fishing line back through the crimp bead and the rest of the beads.

Use a bead crimper or needle-nose pliers to crimp the bead shut. On the opposite end, add another crimp bead and jump ring and loop the fishing line back through the crimp bead and crimp it shut.

Repeat the process with the other three sections of spike beads.

Layout the necklace with the chain and clasp. Then, use the jump rings to put it all together and voila!

What do you think? Is it a project that you will attempt yourself or is it one I should add to my online shop? Which, by the way, has the first couple of items listed, check it out and remember to follow it on Instagram.
